This episode continues a multi-part series within the series to evaluate the book Created To Be His Help Meet by Debi Pearl.
Chelsea and I agree that any good points in this book are drowned out by what we consider dangerous and unbiblical ideas of marriage. Although there is a proper understanding of wives submitting to husbands, we believe this book takes the idea to an unhealthy extreme.
The book denigrates women by defining their role as lifelong slaves to men.
The book denigrates men by relegating them to base impulses and domineering.
In part 2 of our review, we look at what the Hebrew word for “help meet” means. We then see how Debi Pearl makes the wife bear all responsibility for a cheating husband. We see how Debi berates a woman for disobeying her husband’s commands to take birth control when she believed it causes murder. We examine her three types of men and put especially “Mr. Command Man” to the test of Scripture.
